Blue Skies Consortium awarded £44m
Blue Skies Consortium, a central England based partnership of 16
housing associations has been awarded £44m to help fund their house
building programme.
The government backed Homes and
Communities Agency (HCA) awarded the funding in its first four
months of operation in a bid to help revive social home
building.
The £44m allocation places the Blue
Skies Consortium, led by Longhurst Group and Nottingham Community
H.A., 10th in the national list of 117 developers of affordable
homes.
Alan Whyte, Partnerships Director,
Longhurst Group said ‘The Consortium is delighted with the award.
This funding will help significantly towards the building of over
940 much needed homes as well as providing jobs for hundreds at
risk in the construction industry. Developments such as these are a
significant boost to local economies’.
A total of £2.8 billion was allocated
between the
HCA’s launch on 1 December 2008 and 31 March this year. It is
expected to help fund 28,736 social homes and 12,210 low-cost
ownership homes nationally.
